Image alt tags
Image alt tags should always be used to help provide information for text-only browsing, and is particularly important to disability access. It can also help to provide information to search engine spiders and is one of the contributing factors to gaining optimal search engine positioning
Always provide a meaningful alt tag to any "significant" in-line graphic, e.g. to any graphic that is an organisational logo or similar, is an illustration, and in particular if it is a menu or other clickable graphic.
There is no need to include an image alt tag to spacing and other incidental graphics, but for best practice and W3C validation it is necessary to add a "null" value: alt=""
Ideally, use the organisational name with any use of logo, and use a description of any illustration.
Menu and other clickable graphics should be clearly and concisely labelled with the menu choice / anchor destination
