Do we backup your website data?
Yes we do. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't as well! We recommend that you backup your own site files on a regular basis - although we have an effective backup regime, your data is yours and it is ultimately your responsibility to keep it safe.
For our part our backup regime is as follows:
DVisions / Futureservers Backup Regime
- Our servers are RAID 1 servers. This means they have two mirrored hard drives, so if one fails then sites remain live and are delivered from the remaining unaffected hard drive until the faulty one can be replaced.
- All site files are automatically backed up 6 hourly to an adjacent server in the same data centre (currently the Blue Square data centre). At the same time a MySQL database backup dump file is created which is backed up with the site files.
- Files and database are backed up 24 hourly to an alternative physical location (currently to the Legend IPHouse data centre)
- Databases and files do not simply overwrite existing backups. Database backups for the last 7 days are retained, plus backups on an increasing periodical interval are retained for approximately two months. File backups are retained for approximately three months (the exact period that long term backups are retained is determined by the allocated backup data space).
- We keep backup copies of site template files and modified system files. These are stored on our in-house server, and backed up off site.
- Mail servers are backed up 24 hourly.
Special backup arrangements for mission critical data can be arranged where required for an additional fee.
